April Income Report

Check out my April 2020 income report from side hustle.

I am sharing this income report to show you how much side hustle money I made in April 2020.

April 2020 was definitely an unusual month, having to readjust our daily routines to lockdown rules.

This has clearly impacted my side hustle income, with less motivation and opportunities to make money on the side.

Despite that, I am still convinced having a side hustle is a great idea. A side hustle can help boost savings, cover some expenses or build an emergency fund.

If you’re healthy and safe, that is. We are already dealing with an unprecedented situation, so it’s ok if you feel you haven’t got time or mental space for this.

I felt the same in April and have reduced my effort considerably from mid-March onwards.

However, I still want to document my journey to hold myself accountable and to show you it’s still possible to make some money on the side, even with literally no time commitment.

In previous months, I made £200+, but in April 2020 I only made £21.39 – and you know what? I am happy about it!

You might be wondering why you need a side hustle if you have a day job.

I get it, I was like you before.

But now I know that with some effort I can get great results.

What’s even better is that I get to decide how much effort I want to put it. Isn’t it great?

Why do you need an income from a side hustle?

We do it to pay off our mortgage early and work towards our financial independence journey.

In 2019 we bought our first home and we obviously opened a lifelong mortgage that we hate.

Side hustle is not the only tool we use to pay off our mortgage early.

We also track our spending and budget our income carefully every month, save money with thrifty lifestyle hacks (like this one here) and find fun activities to do without spending any money

Whatever your reasons, extra money on the side can help with anything you want and can provide you protection and freedom in your life.

Extra money can even help you build an emergency fund. (Find 10 extra ways to build your emergency fund here)

I can hear you saying, who has got time for all this?

I understand!

And just like you, I also struggle with finding the time, that’s why I put together the top productivity hacks for busy people

How to make money on the side

There are so many ways to make money on the side. You could turn a hobby into a side business or teach something you’re good at.

But not all money making ideas require particular skills. You could get a part time job, declutter and sell your old stuff, complete online surveys or learn matched betting. And these are just a few ideas!

My favourite are online survey, receipt scanning and matched betting.

What is Matched Betting?

As wikipedia states:

Mаtched bеtting is a bеtting technique used by individuals to profit from the free bets and incentives offered by bookmakers. It is generally considered risk-free as it is based on the application of a mathematical equation rather than chance. (Read full details on the Wikipedia website)

When I first came across it, I thought it was just like gambling, but it isn’t.

Before trying it out, I thought it was either illegal or way too complicated for me, as I don’t like sports and I am not very good at maths.

Turns out none of this is true, you don’t need to like sports or have any special skill. The only skill you need is data entry (is that even a skill?) and attention for details.

Thanks to a recommendation on Instagram, I signed up for a free trial with Oddsmonkey and I made around £40 profit from the free training.

I have switched to a premium account, and I made money each month. You can see my previous results here, but I have now paused it (except one tiny bit…), given sports is now on hold so not much to bet on.

What is a Receipt Scanning app?

Receipt scanning apps pay you for taking pictures of the receipts from your purchases.

Simply log into the app and take a picture of the receipt; you might have to answer a couple of questions but it doesn’t take longer than 30 seconds top.

What’s great is that you can make money from expenses you would have made anyway!

Some of these apps only accept food receipts: from a grocery shop, dinner out, takeaway, etc. Basically anything that involves food.

Some others accept receipts for any purchase.

Some of them pay every month, whilst some others require a bit more time to reach the minimum payout, so you might cash out every few months.

Given how easy and quick it is to scan receipts I don’t personally mind if it takes a bit longer to pay.

I use quite a few, but this month I only made money from Zipzero.

Zipzero is quite interesting as the money you earn will go towards any bill of your choice, could be council tax, gas bill or mobile phone contract.

What is an online survey app?

Survey apps pay you a few pennies or a pound (or equivalent points to be converted into money) for completing small tasks, such as responding to a survey, reviewing a product or watching a video.

Payout for each survey varies greatly, so it might take a while to make a decent sum of money. They definitely require some commitment and investment in terms of time, and we all know how hard it can be if you have a busy life!

However, if you can dedicate some time to it, this can be a profitable and easy side hustle, which you could do whilst watching TV or during your spare time.

In April 2020 I earned money from streetbees, curious cat and qmee.

My side hustle income report for April 2020

Survey apps

  • Streetbees = £3.27 cash
  • Curious cat = £2.37 cash
  • Qmee = £0.13 cash

Receipt Scanning apps

  • Zipzero = £11.65 paid towards my mobile phone contract

Matched Betting

Given most sport is on hold, I haven’t matched done any matched betting this month, however I have completed one random casino reload offer I got on email and made a few pounds.

  • Sign up offers from bookmakers = none completed
  • Weekly bet clubs and reload offers  =none completed
  • Casino sign up offers = £3.97
  • Casino reload offers = none completed
  • Bingo sign up offers = none completed
  • Bingo reload offers = none completed

Total = £3.97

Total for the month is £21.39

Given I’ve made over £200 in the previous months, I should really see this result as a failure, however I am actually pleased with it – I put so little effort and time into this that I find this is really free money. I have promised myself to put a bit more effort into this next month, so will see how that goes.

What about you, have you started your new side hustle yet?
